Thesis Topic Research and Pre-Defence Preparation

This week, I focused on researching and developing my thesis topic, which aims to explore strategies for increasing attendance at WordCamp Kraków 2026 by integrating tourism elements into the event experience. The research examines how combining technology events with tourism opportunities can attract more participants, enhance attendee engagement, and create greater value for both organizers and visitors.

My thesis provides an overview of the relationship between event management and tourism, particularly how destination appeal, cultural experiences, and travel motivation can influence participation in international conferences. Since WordPress community events like WordCamp attract global audiences, integrating tourism strategies can improve attendance and overall event success.

In preparation for my pre-defence, I reviewed relevant academic literature, analyzed similar international events, and began structuring my research objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes. The study also highlights the importance of host destinations such as Kraków in attracting international visitors by offering cultural, historical, and tourism experiences alongside professional events.

This week was essential in establishing a clear research direction and building a strong foundation for my thesis. It also helped me better understand how tourism integration can be used as a strategic tool to enhance participation in global technology events.
