I am happy to share an important update regarding my thesis research work, which has now reached one of its final stages. Over the past months, I have been working intensively on my research related to WordCamp participation and the WordPress community ecosystem, and the progress so far has been very encouraging.
Currently, Chapters 1 and 2 of my thesis are almost completed. These chapters mainly focused on the introduction, research objectives, literature review, background studies, and understanding the existing ecosystem surrounding WordPress communities and WordCamp participation.
One of the major parts of my research involved conducting a survey to understand participant experiences, motivations, expectations, challenges, and overall engagement within the WordPress ecosystem. I am very happy to share that the survey received more than 300 responses from participants with different backgrounds, experiences, and regions. Receiving such a strong number of responses has significantly strengthened the quality and reliability of the research data.
The responses collected provided valuable insights into:
- Community participation
- Contributor engagement
- Educational value of WordCamps
- Networking opportunities
- Accessibility challenges
- Motivation for attending WordCamp events
- Volunteer and contributor experiences
- Future expectations from the WordPress ecosystem
In addition to the survey, I am also conducting interviews with experienced members of the WordPress community. The purpose of these interviews is to gain deeper qualitative insights and ensure that the research findings are more accurate, practical, and meaningful.
Speaking directly with experienced contributors and long-term community members has been extremely valuable because it allows the research to go beyond numerical survey data and include real experiences, perspectives, and professional observations from people actively involved in the ecosystem.
At this stage, I am now working on formulating the final research framework and analyzing the collected data in a structured way. This process is one of the most important phases of the thesis because it helps connect theoretical understanding with practical findings from the community.
This research journey has been both challenging and rewarding. Along the way, I have learned not only about academic research methodologies but also about the importance of open-source communities, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and global participation within the WordPress ecosystem.
I would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in the survey, shared feedback, agreed to interviews, and supported this research process. Every response and conversation has contributed greatly toward making the study more comprehensive and meaningful.
As the thesis moves closer to completion, I am excited to continue refining the framework, analyzing the findings, and preparing the final stages of the research. I hope this study can contribute positively toward understanding and improving participation in WordCamp and the broader WordPress community ecosystem.
